An encounter with the works of Van Gogh when she was an eighth grader in junior high school, inspired Kobayashi Saeko to be a painter.
She produces her paintings following her impulse “to paint instantaneously whatever she wants” as if breathing. The transparency which seems to radiate from her paintings might have originated from her attitude toward her unique execution.
For the artist, who produces works one after another as if dancing lightly, the kind of painter she wants to be, as she says, is just like a music album which covers various genres of music such as rock, classical, pop, ballads and so on. Though I admit she is already such a painter, I still wish her to try to soar much higher, experiencing different altitudes in which the air differs in density.
