Suzuki Marie suddenly started painting at the end of 2007 in the same style as she does presently. She renders her suspicious feeling about life which is born from the womb, her fear and hatred of sex, and curiosity about it as well, which is contra-positioned to those feelings, in her works. Her works have continued to attract the attention of viewers in Japan as well as worldwide since they were displayed at the exhibition “Art Brut Japonais” in France in 2010.
Her work is compared with that of Kusama Yayoi, a world-famous Japanese female artist, because of its similarity in the usage of repetitive patterns, vivid colors, sexual motifs and so on. However, contrary to Kusama Yayoi, who propagates her hatred and curiosity about the male sex, and tries to erase any existence of herself, Suzuki Marie, though a female painter as well, portrays (naked bodies and organs of) the female sex solely.
An artist with deep introspection displays a kind of strength surpassing that of Kusama Yayoi, a renowned master, in her bosom.
